Test Prerequirements

1. Your Exchange Server 2016 have to be only NTFS HDD for databases and log files in Use. (REFS will not be supported by DPM 2012 R2)
2. The DPM Server 2012 R2 was updated to RU8
3. On the DPM Server the software "Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012" with all updates have to be installed
4. The files "ese.dll" and "eseutil.exe" from the Exchange 2016 server have to be copied into the bin folder of the DPM 2012R2 server.
5. An Exchange DAG is existing

Database backup Test

We have started an unofficial test with DPM2012 R2 to backup Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 within a DAG.
First we have started the DPM console and created a new Protection Group "Exchange 2016 DAG".
Then we have to select the Group Members for the Protection Group, and of course we could see the DAG with the mailbox databases within. Great!

After we have saved the backup job we started the backup. And voila, the backup of the DAG and the included database run successfully!

DPM Backup completed successfully

Regarding the monitoring, we will see that the Recovery Point was created, and the Consistency Check also run successfully!

DPM Backup completed successfully

Database Recovery Test

At the next day we deleted the database and the log files of the Mailbox database on the Exchange 2016 servers, and set in the ecp for the deleted database the flag "This database can be overwritten by a restore"

Exchange 2016 ECP Console

At this time all prerequirements for a full database ecovery were fullfilled an we started a recovery of the full database in DPM 2012 R2.
Result: Succesfull! The database was mounted, and the mailbox was recovered!
